The requirements for this program of study are effective beginning Fall 2016. If you began working on this program before the effective semester, you may not be affected by the changes. Consult with the program contact person or the department chair to determine your eligibility to complete the program under previous requirements. Associate Degree Requirements:The major is one of several requirements students need to fulfill in order to be awarded the Associate Degree, the highest level of academic achievement recognized by Santa Rosa Junior College. Please note that all of the following requirements must be met in order for the degree to be conferred: For all students admitted for the Fall 2009 term or any term thereafter, a grade of "C" or better, or "P" if the course is taken on a pass/no pass basis, is required for each course applied toward the major.Previous Versions: English for Transfer - effective Fall 2013 DescriptionThe Associate in Arts in English for Transfer is designed to provide a clear pathway to a CSU major and baccalaureate degree. California Community College students who are awarded an AA-T are guaranteed admission with junior standing somewhere in the CSU system and given priority admission consideration to their local CSU campus or to a program that is deemed similar to their community college major. This priority does not guarantee admission to specific majors or campuses. Current and prospective community college students are encouraged to meet with a counselor to develop an educational plan that best meets their goals and needs. Students will have to fulfill the following requirements to earn this degree.
Obtainment of a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 and Earn a grade of “C” or better in all courses required for the major. Program Student Learning OutcomesUpon successful completion of this major, the student will be able to:
Recommended Sequence of CoursesStudents should refer to the TMC (Transfer Model Curriculum) Template here, transfer model, for a clear guide to the course requirements. Additionally, for students interested in a suggested order for taking classes in this program, please view the recommended course sequence. It is important that students who are completing an Associate Degree and desire to transfer to a four-year institution meet with a counselor to plan their lower division coursework. While many majors at SRJC are intended to align with lower division major preparation required by California public universities, specific lower-division major requirements vary among individual campuses. See a counselor, visit the Transfer Center, and check Guides For Transfer in Specific Majors, and ASSIST to review transfer preparation guides for specific schools and majors. |

Course Prerequisites and Advisories:Courses in a program of study may have prerequisites or advisories; that is, courses that must or should be completed before taking that course. Please check for prerequisites or advisories by clicking on the course numbers in the Program Requirements section. However, students who don’t meet the prereqs on the literature courses (on the courses that still have them) can petition to take the literature course without the prereq. This does not apply to ENGL 1B, ENGL 5, and ENGL 4B and C. |

Rotation of Courses:At SRJC we have a wide variety of literature, creative writing, and linguistics classes. These options necessitate rotating some of our selections to make sure that each class is taught on a regular basis. Though the classes on List A for the major never rotate, the classes on List B and C do. When a class rotates, it will be taught according to a pattern: odd fall semesters, even fall semesters, odd spring semesters, even spring semesters. For example, English 14: Dystopian Literature is taught in even-numbered fall semesters (e.g. Fall 2026, Fall 2028). The example schedules below for odd and even numbered fall and spring semesters can help you plan out your schedule. Our goal as a Department is to offer classes from List A, B, and C each semester to make it easier for English majors to complete their degrees.
One final note on these example schedules: They’re goals. If enrolment is low in a class, it may be canceled. Odd Numbered Fall Semesters (e.g. 2027, 2029)
Even Numbered Fall Semesters (e.g. 2028, 2030)
Odd Numbered Spring Semesters (e.g. 2027, 2029)
Even Numbered Spring Semesters (e.g. 2028, 2030)
